- Dry Ingredients:
- 240 gms whole wheat flour/atta
- 15 gms dark cocoa powder
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- Zest of 1 orange
- 100 grams chocolate pieces/callets
- Wet Ingredients:
- 110 gms butter
- 150 gms castor sugar
- 180 gms hung curd
- 1 tsp vanilla/orange essence
- 140 gms water
- 3 tbsp fresh orange juice
- Decoration:
- 2-3 orange slices
Instructions:
- Preparation:
- Preheat your oven to 350Ā°F (180Ā°C).
- Line an 8-inch round or square baking tin with parchment paper.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the whole wheat flour, dark cocoa powder, baking powder, and baking soda.
- Add the orange zest and chocolate pieces to the dry ingredients. Stir to combine.
- Mix Wet Ingredients:
- In a separate bowl, beat the butter and castor sugar together for 4-5 minutes using a whisk or a hand mixer, until light and fluffy.
- To the butter and sugar mixture, add the hung curd, orange juice, and vanilla/orange essence. Mix until well combined.
- Combine Dry and Wet Ingredients:
- Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients, stirring gently. Add water in parts to adjust the consistency as needed.
- Bake the Cake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking tin. Smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake on the middle rack of the oven with both rods on for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cooling and Unmoulding:
- After baking, let the cake sit in the tin for a few minutes on a cooling rack.
- Carefully unmould the cake from the tin and let it cool completely on the rack.
Orange Glaze (Optional)
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tbsp orange juice
- Zest of 1 orange (optional, for extra flavor)
Simply mix the powdered sugar with orange juice until you achieve a thick but pourable consistency. Stir in the orange zest if using. Drizzle over the cooled cake.
