Recipe for Chocolate Glazed Doughnuts

These homemade doughnuts are fluffy, soft, and generously coated with a rich chocolate glaze. Perfect for any occasion, theyā€™re easy to make and irresistible to eat!

Ingredients:

For the Doughnuts:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm milk (about 110Ā°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the Chocolate Glaze:

  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2-3 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Dough:
    • In a small bowl, combine the warm milk and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes, until the yeast becomes foamy.
    • In a large bowl, whisk together the sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla extract. Add the yeast mixture and stir to combine.
    • Gradually add the flour and salt to the wet ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.
    • Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 5-6 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
  2. Shape the Doughnuts:
    • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface to about 1/2-inch thickness.
    • Use a doughnut cutter (or two round cutters of different sizes) to cut out the doughnuts. Save the doughnut holes for frying as well!
    • Place the doughnuts and holes on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover with a towel, and let them rise for another 30-40 minutes.
  3. Fry the Doughnuts:
    • Heat about 2-3 inches of vegetable oil in a heavy-bottomed pot or deep fryer to 350Ā°F (175Ā°C).
    • Carefully add a few doughnuts at a time to the hot oil, frying for about 1-2 minutes per side, until golden brown.
    • Remove the doughnuts with a slotted spoon and place them on a wire rack or paper towels to drain.
  4. Make the Chocolate Glaze:
    • In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the chocolate chips and butter, stirring constantly until smooth.
    • Remove from heat and whisk in the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until the glaze is smooth and shiny. If the glaze is too thick, add a little more milk.
  5. Glaze the Doughnuts:
    • Dip the tops of the cooled doughnuts into the chocolate glaze, allowing any excess to drip off.
    • Place the glazed doughnuts back on the wire rack to set.
  6. Serve:
    • Enjoy your doughnuts fresh, with the chocolate glaze perfectly set on top.

These chocolate-glazed doughnuts are a delicious treat, perfect for any doughnut lover who enjoys soft, fluffy doughnuts topped with a rich and indulgent chocolate glaze!
