  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 cup milk (or any plant-based milk for a vegan option)


  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.
  2. Whisk together the dry ingredients: In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream the butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Add the vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. Add the milk: Gradually add the milk to the butter-sugar mixture while continuing to mix. The dough should start to form a crumbly texture.
  5. Combine the wet and dry ingredients: Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, you can add a little more flour.
  6. Roll out the dough: On a floured surface, roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes.
  7. Bake the cookies: Place the cut-out cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are just slightly golden. Be careful not to overbake to keep them soft.
  8. Cool and decorate: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, decorate with your favorite icing and sprinkles.
