Double Chocolate & Hazelnut Tart
Ingredients:
- For the Crust:
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
- 1 large egg yolk
- 2 tablespoons ice water
- For the Filling:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 10 ounces dark chocolate, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup hazelnuts, toasted, skinned, and roughly chopped
Instructions:
- Prepare the Crust:
- In a food processor, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Add cold butter and pulse until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add egg yolk and ice water. Pulse until dough just comes together.
- Press the dough into a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom, making sure it is evenly spread on the bottom and up the sides.
- Chill the crust in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Bake the Crust:
- Preheat the oven to 350Ā°F (175Ā°C).
- Prick the crust with a fork, then bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool while preparing the filling.
- Make the Filling:
- In a saucepan, heat the cream and milk until it just begins to simmer. Remove from heat and add the chopped dark chocolate, stirring until smooth and creamy.
- Stir in sugar and salt, then mix in the beaten eggs and vanilla extract until well combined.
- Assemble the Tart:
- Sprinkle chopped hazelnuts evenly over the cooled crust.
- Pour the chocolate filling over the hazelnuts.
- Return the tart to the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the filling is set but still slightly wobbly in the center.
- Cool and Serve:
- Allow the tart to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
- Once cooled, remove the tart from the pan and transfer to a serving plate.
- Optionally, dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with more melted chocolate before serving.
